Summer-like Heat Grips South Carolina with Temperatures in the 90s

South Carolina is experiencing an early stretch of summer-like heat as a ridge of high pressure dominates the eastern United States.
Temperatures across much of the state are expected to climb into the 90s through midweek, with coastal areas slightly cooler in the 80s.
Columbia is forecast to reach 93°F (34°C) on Tuesday and 94°F (34.4°C) on Wednesday, while the Upstate will see highs near 90°F (32.2°C).

Why It's Important?

The unseasonably warm temperatures may pose risks for those not yet acclimated to summer-like conditions. Prolonged exposure to heat can lead to dehydration and heat-related illnesses, particularly for individuals engaging in outdoor activities. The elevated UV Index also increases the risk of sunburn and skin damage. While the heat is notable, it is not expected to reach record-breaking levels, and the lack of excessive humidity will mitigate the heat index. However, the limited rainfall forecasted with the approaching front may not provide significant drought relief for the region.
